Making a short vs TV show
on Apr 27, 2017
Congrats on your first rejection.
I wasn't at the panel last night but I think I can offer some insight. You kinda hit the nail on the head with short vs tv show. While you don't have to set up your next episode or anything like that, you wanna make a pilot that shows the world of the show and let us imagine what other episodes could be like.
What you got here is an animated dick at a bus stop just saying some stuff. What I think would be better is a story. The animated dick catches a bus to work and deals with his boss. The animated dick goes on a blind date. Something with a beginning middle and end.
While not every 101 show follows the same structure, I think traditional three-act-structure is a great starting point. At the very least, give your main character a goal and have him/her/it pursue it.
Best of luck, hope you submit again.

First time, long timer here. Just got my first rejection notice (very proud). I generally like to write animated shorts over something like a TV show that is intended to carry a story from episode to episode.
I was curious if that hurts me in submissions. Any advice is appreciated.
