Rejectee Therapy for Cavity

  • I was into this at first but it started to lose me a minute or so in.

I think the main issue here is how the tone keeps changing. Playing with multiple tones is all well and good but not at the expense of betraying the base reality youíve already established.

In order for the audience to accept big leaps from reality, you have to prepare them for it early. This is a trick you see in almost all genre stories to get audiences to suspend their disbelief. For example, if Raiders of the Lost Ark didnít start with Indy doing some big raiding action shit, it would be truly bizarre when this professor starts routinely defying death later in the movie.

Cavity starts very realistically, then becomes a sitcom and then after that enters a reality where death isnít a big deal. I donít know if itís on purpose or not but itís definitely something you should be conscious of when writing. Most of this is subconscious for the audience so even though they may not be able to put their finger on why something is off, theyíll definitely be able to feel it.

I hope this all makes sense and I hope you keep making and submitting stuff!
