Rejectee Therapy for Tiny Detectives (Rejected Pilot)

  • Yo, I had to miss the panel this month so I can't speak for the panel and I haven't seen the new pilots yet so I can't say if I agree or disagree with their call yet but here's some of my thoughts.

I think the style of this is really fun. I like seeing small people walk around. For me, there's two things working against this. 1) the story did not feel compelling enough and paced too slow. If you're making a cop story, pace it up a bit. Give us the mission fast and give us some twist and turns. And 2) I didn't get invested in your two main characters and their banter. All pilot flaws can be forgiven if I care about the characters and if their interactions are making me laugh.

On a side note -- which applies to so many submitted pilots and I don't think had any effect on the panel decision -- I really feel like 101 has had enough procedural cop shows. Like 2014 was pretty much only fake cop shows. And yes I am part of the problem and I admit that. I doubt the audiences coming these days remember shows from 2017, let alone 2014, but that's just something I wanted to put out into the universe. Or maybe I'm wrong and now everyone makes fake talk shows and fake science shows and fake cop procedurals are on their way back.
