Rubble Jones: Casting Cat
on Mar 28, 2013
I think we just had one DVD. The data file. There was no playable DVD so we had to watch it on my computer.
Yeah, I can only echo what Mike said. Give us a character to root for and let us follow that character through twists and turns going towards their goal.
Paul Isakson posted a really nice breakdown of ideas and advice in the "Advice" thread on this forum. Check that out, for sure.
Excited to see what you do next!

Thanks so much for taking the time to give me feedback! You're absolutely right, the pilot format is new to me so I definitely see how I can work on developing characters and creating more beats. oh, and I'm sorry about the DVD - i dont know what happened there!

So first off, we had some trouble playing the DVD on our player (either that or you submitted this as a link, I don't remember) and we had to play this on a laptop with bad sound. That's always a tough hole to start in.
Having said that, this feels like a sketch more than a story. We get the beat of Rubble Jones being a cat (which is already in the title so we're already anticipating it) but then we never move on from that. We get three different takes on how hard it is to impress the cat with various monologues taken to the extreme, but there's no development to any characters or plot. that became an issue for us.
The Channel 101 panel really cherishes telling a story with strong characters in the 5 minute constraint. You know how to shoot, edit and score you film and your actresses were really great. We want you to take this (or another idea) and turn it into a story with about 7 more beats to it. Create some intriguing characters, keep the story moving and keep raising the stakes until those characters are forced to make a change to who they are.
Please make another pilot for us!
